Talking Tourism In El Barrio?

Much has been made about economic development in communities like East Harlem. The downside of economic development is when local resident's find that they can no longer afford to live in these vibrant economic communities. What good is it to residents that their neighborhoods are being improved if they can no longer live in them?

Harlem is beginning to experience this very thing. Rents for
everything is going up. Residents are finding it hard to
keep up. Protests have occurred.

The only ones benefitting from economic development are those
geared toward taking "advantage" of it, business people, who may
or may not live in the area. Economic Development benefits mostly business people. (and friends of local politicos or of beauracrats -- again, business people)

I guess that other don't care? Back to the original topic. Tourism in El Barrio would be good only if it is limited and if it does not affect the market price of rent.

Because then, tourism would benefit only those doing the tourism and those raising the rents.
