Cross Link to CB # 11 Website

Mr. Rivera, if you are not bold enough to say it, for surely you must be thinking it; "Why doesn't board 11 have a link to www.east-harlem.com"? I see that you have helped to publisize them and have a link to their site, not to mention having carried all of their meetings on your calendar for quite a long time. Don't tell me that David is that petty?

It means that sometimes it's necessary to threaten a things existence (protest rallys, etc, peacefull) as it currently is, to make change possible. The saying came from a quote in "Dune", a movie and quite popular sci-fi book. In Dune, the tactics used were not very peacefull.

In Dune, a spice which all beings in the Universe used to live longer, have esp, and navigate folded space, production was stopped by a band of the oppressed people, who had to mine the spice. The spice was found solely on their planet. Yet they did not live well. So an army of natives slowly but surely attached the harvesters of the spice until production was down to almost nothing. The whole universe had to pay attention to the natives. The leader of the natives then leveraged this into being emperor. The planet was a very tough place to live. And only the natives could move about in the way needed to do things. Hence, by almost destroying spice production they eventually controlled the mechanism of spice production.

Hope this answers your question. The quote does have applications in community activism. If an institution is unjust, putting light on it will usually help create changes needed. Thereby changing the institution. In a way, one has then destroyed what was and created what is.

community board and protocols

all community boards exist under by-laws that govern specific protocols. several of the new set of hand picked members apparently have no idea that committees are for the most part well organized and directed with past practices written in minutes......new members should request all the minutes of their particular committee before engaging in ranting about things already decided upon. the failure to educate oneself with the history of a committee will result in complete fiasco in the preconceive notions and secret agendas that ignorance brings to the table......

Yes, all members should read and request committee minutes. Ranting should not be allowed, only a good educated opinion.

Thumbs up board elections

the next board election scheduled for 11/14/06 will be an interesting event. the return of a rodriguez to head the board against the incumbent lino. for vice chair ms bell versus ms dq. at stake possibly the further regression of a board already rated the worst in the city. my bet is on rod and bell combo. this combination will be more constructive and less prone to destroy the small but constructive contributions the board has made to the community in the last 3 years. WHO WE ACTUALLY NEED IS MR GIVENS TO RETURN.....

gone to the dogs

The board has just replaced the chairperson of the one committee that has been the most productive in the last 3 and a half years. The community board rated the worst in the city has just cut off its only star committee leader. I was quite wrong in my evaluation of the new board president, he is not using good judgement and wants to make the only good thing the board has accomplished his own. Unfortunately let see how well he can get the public to vote for him when he runs for councilman against Viverito. As far as the replacement for cultural committee chair, he was instrumental in trying to undermine the cultural committee as a member an has never contributed anything to the success of the three Arts and Cultural Network Celebrations of the past...but even the Vice president of the board is guilty of the same. She was previously chair of the cultural committee before being dismissed by Mr Givens because of etc.

how sad

the board chair has actually assume the "leadership: of the arts cultural and landmaking committee. the vice chair his second is following the instructions left behind by the previous chair on how to implement the four annual arts and cultural street activity. Ms Traverso has left the board and will continue her community arts activism. How many puerto rican leaders does it take to replace one Taina? I have counted 4 crabs in the basket so far......

The Saga Continues

The Fourth Annual Arts And Cultural Networking Event On 8/18 Will Be Successful And Without A Hitch....because The First, Second And Third Annual Was Conceived And Implemented By The Ousted Chairperson Of The Cultural Committee ALONG WITH One Or Two Committed Board Members And Several Volunteers (public Members). This Group Lead By Taina Traverso (chair) Left A Manual And A Listing Of Over 200 Artists With The Boards New Chairperson Of The Cultural Committee And Chairman Of The Board (rodriguez) And The Vice Chair Of The Board (quinones) Who Is Now Co-chair Of The Cultural Committee. This Is Just A Brief Summary Of How 2 Of The Crabs Operated To Remove Taina And Claim Ownership Of An Event They Never Conceived Nor Contributed Towards. Stay Tuned For The Story Of The Two Other Crabs. One Is Really A Squirrel Looking For A Nut....

Boards Under Scrutiny

My Wife Calls It Checks And Balances. She Is Correct, Community Boards Especially When Making Serious Decisions Must Be Monitored On There Level Of Objectivity And Capriciouness.

What Do You Think?
