I vividly remember that restaurant. I remember I dated a man in 1975/6 who resided in the same building above the restaurant...he turned out to be a real jerk...anyway, that restaurant is one of the landmarks of Spanish Harlem. For some reason, though, the neighborhood people steered over to the cuchifrito stand/restaurant across from Ponce de Leon....maybe Ponce de Leon was expensive for most people.

I remember going there as a child with my mother and brother and sisters. My mother being a joker order paella. But as she was ordering it, she pointed to my sisters. Being hungry and slightly grumpy by this time my twin brother and I blurted out, "paella para ella, y para mi?" My mother burst out laughing and to this day loves to tell the tale of ordering our meals that day.
