I am going to be very hungry ,great suggestion. From SHarlem how long will a train ride take to WhitePlains ?
I'm nervous about walking around and looking like the tourist I am.

You'll be perfectly safe in the day time and evenings. I am not sure about the trains. If you mean White Plains, NY, then I guess you take the train on Park Avenue, either at 42nd Street or at 125th Street and Park Avenue.

just fyi,125th to South plains is about 1hour
I had a blast !! We ate in SHarlem at a walk in counter cafe that served Purto Rican Food.. AWESOME !!
NYC folks were 100% friendly and I did feel safe walking around...
