Hi Diana,
Welcome back. Good to hear from you. The school will probably be located at East 106 Street, right next to Saint Cecilia's Church in the building that the Sisters of Mercy used to live in. Start date is scheduled for August 1, 2004.

Cristo Rey High School

I know it's been awhile...

So the school will be located in what used to be the convent. Sounds like a very small school that building is'nt that big.

Does St. Cecilia have anything to do with it? and what grade is the school staring with?

Let me answer your question this way. The school will start with about a 100 student freshmen class. As those freshmen become 10, 11 and 12 graders, we will then have those grades. In other words start with a freshmen class and grow the school out from that class as they rise in grades. They hope to have about 450 students with all four grades become available. Hope you know what I mean.

This was not a St. Cecilia's initiative, but something which has worked and spread from Chicago. Though Fr. Skelly and the St. Cecilia's parish have been very helpful.

The building is big enough for our eventual 450 students. It's bigger on the inside than it looks.

Cristo Rey High School

Jose,

Thanks for responding. I thought that would be the model. It was the same for when the Young Women's Leadership School opened up but they started with 7th grade and now it's also a high school as well. This school is across the street from where Cristo Rey will be.

Congratulations on your new position.

Will this school be like the Catholic schools of "Old" (like when we went to school) or have they changed with the times?

Diana
