It seems that Felipe Luciano, candidate for the 8th Councilmanic District, in East Harlem, lost his bid to become Councilman. According to the lastest tally, Felipe garnered 49% of the vote versus 51% for Incumbent Councilman Philip Reed. Luciano lost by less than 225 votes out of a total of about 16,000 votes cast.

It is uncertain if Luciano plans to ask for a recount in an attempt to force a new election. Though most think that it is doubtful he would do that. Officially, no one has won yet or has been declared the winner by the Board of Elections. But it won't be too long before we find out. Stay tuned....

Unfortunately for East Harlem, Luciano did not win. The West side voted overwhelmingly for Reed, and now we not only don't have a Hispanic representing a Hispanic district, but we have the added disappointment of having the White West Side determine our council person.

The West Side must be cut out of our district, it doesn't belong there anyway. They are not of our culture or mind set. Isn't it time that East Harlem have it's own council person?
