Candidates' Debate Sep 5, 2001

East Harlem Online will be one of many sponsors and co-sponsors for the 8th Councilmanic District Candidates' Debate to be held at PS 50 (100th St and 1st Ave) on September 5, 2001. The event will kickoff at 6:00 PM.

I hope to have the event photographed and taped.

Come and hear Felipe Luciano, Phil Reed and George C. DeMartini debate the issues. Of course, I will be there. If you attend, don't forget to say hello. I'd love to meet you all.

I'm curious to hear about the audience's response to the candidates in attendance (or not in attendance)? Anyone care to elaborate?

I am not sure what you mean. The event was well attended, over 100 people showed up. Most were from either of the two camps, with Councilman Phil Reed bringing in about 75% of the audience.

In the future we will work harder to bring in regular, not committed folks, as that is the intended audience of any candidates' debate. Nothing is accomplished by preaching to the converted. We will count this one a success anyway.
