The City of New York want to move the Museum of the City of New York from its current location on East 104th Street and Fifth Avenue to Tweed Courthouse near City Hall. Local residents want the museum to stay in the East Harlem community, and feel that the move is a slap in the face to local pride and self determination. The museum sees it as a way to better raise funds, being nearer to Wall Street.

What do you think about this proposed move out of East Harlem and into the Tweed Courthouse near City Hall?

Just wanted to post an update. So far little has changed. But there are some proposals before the community board which may change that. I don't know the ins and outs of it, but there will be a ULURP meeting I believe this month.

Debbie Quinions will host another community forum on Culture in East Harlem around September. Check the East Harlem Online Community Calendar for more info (as it becomes available).
