Well, it finally happened! East Harlem/El Barrio/Spanish Harlem has its very own Christmas Tree, complete with a Tree Lighting Ceremony. All this was the brainchild of Mr. Hector Santana of New York State, Empire State Development along with the East Harlem Tourism Board (http://www.eastharlemtourism.org) . Mr. Santana needs to be congratulated on an idea and job well done. Read more about this at:
Tree Lighting Ceremony (http://www.east-harlem.com/mt/archives/000072.html#more) .

If any of you attended that cold fridget night, please post your thoughts.

It was an incredibly exhilarating experience to see East Harlem's first ever Christmas tree being lit at the plaza on 106 Street. While I do look forward to seeing the tree every morning on my way to work, I am saddened to notice that the lights are not always turned on. I do hope that this spanking new annual tradition is not, in fact, suffering "mid-birth" due to lack of financial support. Let's all do our best to ensure that this wonderful community experience continues.

I trust in Mr. Hector Santana. I believe that he will make next year's Tree Lighting an even better event than this years. This year's event was great! But it is always fun to think of ways to add some Salsa to anything. Let's see.... I wonder if he can get Jennifer Lopez to light the tree? Then she can have dinner at my house and then.....
