I'm trying to find places for rent in East Harlem, but have been unable to locate agencies that can help on the internet. I'm currently living in Tampa, but will be relocating to New York City. I hear that East Harlem is becoming a great place to live. Can anyone point me in the direction (web address or telephone number) of any apartment locator service with info on living accommodations in East Harlem? Many thanks for your help. Ron

I replied:
There are rental "agents" in East Harlem, really, Real Estate
agents, but they are not likely to be on the internet.
Most are one or two people offices. This makes it harder
to find a place in East Harlem from a distance.
Most people come into the neighborhood and find these agents
or go by word of mouth. Either way, you almost have to be
here to get a place. We have more people looking for a place
than places for them. Rents go from $500 a month to over
$1,400 a month. (For a one to two bed room apartment).

Thanks for the info Jose - I did send you an email with a few specifics - the apartment is actually for my son who is in New York and who will be coming to East Harlem soon to have a look around. In the meanwhile, it occurred to me that a list of Real Estate Agents with contact information (phone numbers, email, etc.) might be a really good thing to have at your site. I'm sure that others who are hoping to settle in East Harlem would find such a list at this site to be very helpful. What do you think? Ron

Then I replied:
Good idea.
I do know of one, Henry Calderon of Calderon Travel, Calderon
Real Estate, and a few other Calderons...
He can be reached at 212-722-7117. Tell him Jose from
East Harlem Online sent you. I did the East Harlem Chamber
of Commerce web site for him (www.eastharlemchamber.com)
About Real Estate Agents, I have not listed them for two
reasons, one I don't know too many, two, I don't wish to
do business for someone else. Its something I have a hard
time reconciling; helping businesspeople for nothing. I don't
believe I should. And my site is a public service site.
I am not in it for the money anyway. I hope you know what I
mean. And I hope your son get's something soon. Henry can
give him a number where to reach me. I have helped others
find a place. Have your son call me.

Will be looking forward to hearing from your son
