Lately it seems like the Museum of the City of New York is not going to move after all. Seems that Mayor Bloomberg is not too hot for the idea.

Aside from the money involved, I say, let them move. What have they contributed to El Barrio anyway? Give the space to El Mueso Del Barrio with the stipulation that they constantly and consistently have exibits for, about and from El Barrio. We wouldn't want El Museum to become El Museo Del Barrio about South America.

What do you forum members think about the move?

I think the Museum of the City of New York should MERGE with the New York Historical Society and then BOTH of them can get their brand new building downtown near ground zero. In this way the history of NYC will be forever linked to the events of Sept 11.

The current building MUST be given to el Museo. With MORE space there would be no shortage of galleries dedicated to el Barrio. There could even be PERMANENT space dedicated to the artists of el Barrio.
el Museo HAS consistently shown artists from el Barrio: James de la Vega, Jose Morales, Fernando Salicrup......what more do you want?

Any complaints should be sent to Mayor Bloomberg: TELL him we we want the buildiong for el Museo with all the $$$$ needed to fix it up nicely. We expect nothing less.
